Description
At the very entrance to the town from the direction of Budva, across the hotel “Princess”, the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Jovan Vladimir was built, as a place of gathering, brotherly love and forgiveness. The temple decorates Bar and the entire coast, providing an unforgettable view and experience of spiritual fulfilment.
The temple is dominated by seven large crosses. The central gilded cross, 4.60 meters high, weighing 800 kg, reaching the highest level of 40 metres, is unique in Europe and worldwide. The cross is distinctive, modelled on the famous Vladimir’s Cross, the largest relic of Bar since ancient times, a symbol of faith, love and hope. The iconostasis, frescoes, altar, holy table, deacon, and other elements of the interior decoration of the temple are unique and magnificent.
There are nine bells on the temple. One of the most beautiful squares in Montenegro is located around the temple. The cornerstone for the construction of the temple was laid on 4 June 2002 on an area of 2 x 1,350 square metres, and the temple was consecrated on 25 September 2016, on the 1000th anniversary of the suffering of St. Jovan Vladimir.
